Resume Guidance

Resumes should be a summary of your professional experience, skillset, and results/accomplishments. They should only include the candidate’s most relevant selling points and should be  concise. Less is more (as long as your point is conveyed). Resumes should be a teaser, so it's best not to go into so much detail which could overwhelm the reader.

Start with your best selling points or accomplishments first, & results are always ideal to include if you can quantify (estimates are okay).   Did you create a process, or even improve or streamline a process in any way? What direct value did you contribute? Can you include results: Money saved? Time saved? Reduction in procedure time?

At the very least, a resume should match the job you are applying for,  so at least tie in your relevant / parallel experience.

Some strong words to begin resume bullets:

  • Reconciled

  • Created

  • Streamlined

  • Spearheaded

  • Led

  • Supervised

  • Reduced

Example bullet:

  •  Reduced reporting defects by 98% and procedure-time by 85%: revamped monthly financial close and reporting by automating processes, redesigning reports, restructuring roles, and streamlining flow
